COACH vs THERAPIST
What's the difference?
The line between a coach and a therapist is a bright one.
A therapist will typically spend most of their time guiding an individual back to their childhood and uncovering the root of their current behaviors and thought patterns. They can diagnose and treat mental health conditions and are more past-oriented.
A coach, on the other hand, is focused on the present and future. Indeed a coach needs to be privy to past behaviors and where they come from, but their ultimate goal is to get you unstuck so you can move forward. They focus on helping you break negative habits and take actionable steps toward a better life.
Believe it or not, many therapists expand their work by becoming certified coaches. Why? Because they understand that therapy is not for everyone and not everyone needs therapy. And since the approach is quite different, they have to get certified.
You'd be surprised at how much of a difference you can make in someone's life, by simply listening. The best part? You don't need a license for that.
