Have you ever thought about this?

It doesn’t have to be an elaborate thing, you can even write a letter.

But giving your current self the ability to sit down with the younger you, is incredibly healing.

It doesn’t have to be all mushy or gimmicky either.

For me, driving is usually the time when my brain unfolds everything.

Even if I’m not intentionally trying to - it just does.

On one of my drives, I remember placing one hand briefly over my heart and a smile drew across my face.

Following the smile were tears of happiness, peace, awareness, and an internal understanding of…

“we are okay”

I said to my younger self; “I am proud of you!” “You did it!”

The feeling that followed felt like an immense ‘thank you’ - as if it was from someone that is very grateful.

We are quite literally breaking this generational curse (at least on this side of the family)

And I can’t even begin to describe what it truly feels like - the best way to understand it is a feeling of complete ‘oneness’ with yourself.

It doesn’t mean you won’t feel pain or stress or hurt, etc

It just means that you hold these feelings in a different way than before - that despite their presence, you don’t lose yourself anymore.

Raise your hand if you’ve been there before 🙋🏽‍♀️

When I was a teenager, I would vomit all of the hurt and pain I felt from my parent.

I was never able to say it in a calm and mild-tempered way.

The moment I faced her, all the feelings & emotions would bubble to the surface - my voice would tremble as I tried to swallow down my internal cry.

You know what I’m talking about - the kind of cry that feels like a giant lump in your throat and it tenses up, making your neck feel like it’s getting tighter and tighter.

At the time, I was so focused on her “getting it”.

Like, “do you understand why ALL EIGHT of your children don’t want to speak with you?”

I use to get myself stuck in this cycle.

But now, I remind myself that we as human beings get the ability to choose what our life looks like.

She chose hers.

And I get to choose mine.

Does it still sadden me? Of course, because as a mother myself I couldn’t even imagine putting my child through any harm.

I get to choose what this life looks like and sounds like for me and my family.

But most importantly, I get to choose how I hold this pain.

And it no longer has to control me.

Just like it no longer has to control you.

And while it’s not always literal, it carries a profound truth. The type of partner we choose often reflects the parts of us that need the most healing, growth, or attention.

Relationships are inherently challenging, but they also provide us with one of the greatest mirrors for self-discovery.

Here’s the thing: it’s not just about having a supportive partner—it’s about becoming one, too.

The right kind of relationship is built on mutual willingness to grow, even when it’s uncomfortable.

That includes recognizing the moments when your partner’s perception of you carries a kernel of truth.

I think many of us can relate to this ☝🏽

Those that came from a traumatic upbringing often go through this song and dance of ‘fear’ and ‘hope’, with hope being center-stage.

This belief that maybe one day, they will receive this grand apology that we feel we so rightly deserve and they will change.

This prevents many trauma-survivors from setting true boundaries and healing.

Out of ‘fear’ that if they do, then the ‘hope’ of change will not come to be.

So they stay caught, in this performance. This cycle.

Never really having true peace, no clear purpose or direction in life, still on-edge, repeated conflicts with intimate partners, and so on and so on.

It becomes so predictable, it’s text book.

It’s exhausting.

So instead of applying endless bandaids of self-help books, podcasts, retreats, or vent-sessions with your ‘community’…

Anxiety wears many faces..

It’s not always the quiet, timid, or withdrawn person.

Sometimes, it’s the life of the party - the social butterfly who seems confident and outgoing.

Anxiety can also look like over-talking, people-pleasing, fast speech, or always “smiling” (you know the type of person I’m talking about)

It can look like many other things too.

Anxiousness is rooted in fear and there’s not one special human being on earth that doesn’t operate their life on some capacity of fear - we all do it to some degree.

Anxiety isn’t defined by how someone appears- it’s about how they feel. It’s the racing thoughts, the fear of judgment, and the pressure to be “on” all the time even when it’s exhausting.

It’s probably fair to assume that journaling has been around since the beginning of man 👤

It’s a great way to document certain life events, express thoughts, and to plan for the future🌎

Each of us journal in a different way, but for journaling to be the most beneficial for you it is important to AVOID these three things 👇🏽

🚫 Writing Without Reflection: journaling can be a healthy way to “vent” but venting, in of itself, does not benefit anyone - even if it is penned down. To avoid journaling becoming a repetitive venting exercise, it is important to take a moment to reflect. Look for patterns, insights, or lessons.

🚫Writing Only About Negatives: sometimes we only write when we are going through a negative experience. Writing only when you are in a negative thought pattern only reinforces negative thinking. Balance your journaling by expressing gratitude, small wins, or positive moments.

🚫Not Writing Difficult Emotions: skipping over uncomfortable topics may prevent deeper healing and self-awareness. Allow yourself to write about challenging feelings, even if it’s messy and painful. This can lead to breakthroughs!

We were out running errands one day and I saw these seedlings for sale 🌲

I wanted to make mini Christmas trees with them and decorate them with my daughter 🎄

They were about $30 a piece and he goes, “you know we can just get some from our woods”.

I agreed with him that they were too pricey and let my little Pinterest moment take flight, cause when would we actually scavenge the woods for seedlings.

A couple days go by and he is out hunting with his brother- he hadn’t seen anything but it was a beautiful day regardless.

When he arrived home, I met him out in the driveway to see how everything went.

He jumped out of the truck BEAMING with a smile and said “I didn’t see anything… BUT…LOOK AT ALL THESE SEEDLINGS I GOT FOR YOU!” 🥹🥹🥹

Ladies…my heart ❤️

Moral of the story:

IF 👏🏽 HE 👏🏽 WANTS 👏🏽 TO 👏🏽 HE 👏🏽 WILL

Our relationship takes work, just like any other, and in our marriage we are becoming more intentional with our efforts.

Being intentional has helped us to 👇🏽

✅minimize the duration of conflicts
✅become more affectionate
✅support each other more
✅plan and make goals together
✅connect deeper with each other

We used to echo "Can we just get along?" and that was the problem...

Though we love each other deeply, our intense personalities—shaped by unhealed emotions—meant we clashed often.

Coming together, we realized that we didn’t want mere surface peace. We wanted to feel loved even in the storm of the inevitable.

Conflict, we came to understand, is not the enemy; it’s a teacher, a path to understanding each other more deeply.

So we made a shift and began to cultivate our relationship with a few guiding principles👇🏽

✅INTENTION – Too often, relationships run on autopilot, drifting through patterns and habits. But when we live each day with intention, we become fully present, reducing the frequency of conflict and making our efforts and presence felt. Intentionality means actively cherishing and valuing each other, rather than passively coexisting.

✅ACCOUNTABILITY – Real change begins with honest reflection. If we refuse to see our own flaws or acknowledge how we contribute to tensions, we stay stuck in a game of right and wrong. Accountability does not make us 'forever flawed'; it’s an act of humility, breaking the ego's hold and letting us see conflict as something to learn from, rather than a battle to win.

✅LETTING GO – We’re different people, from different paths, and as such, conflict is inevitable. Instead of trying to prevent it or control every conflict that arises, we decided to let it happen and see it as an opportunity for growth and understanding.

Since implementing, our gratitude has grown, our conflict duration has minimized, and we reassure each other of our love more often🫶🏽

When in reality, it’s the lasting imprint left behind. It’s the memory you carry that shapes how you feel, think, and see the world around you.

Trauma is not the event itself, rather it is how your body responded to it.

It colors and blurs the way you see others and perceive things even if it’s not in the most dramatic of ways.

It constructs and deconstructs our personality, which is why we often find ourselves in this never-ending loop of “self-discovery” and wondering at which time/age will we finally have become “us”.

Awareness of this, does not give you the pass to blame the event or the person (although I am sure it would be well-justified).
